The Mad Dogs (established 1976) are now recruiting for the 2007-2008 season. We are members of the Texas Rugby Union, the Western Rugby Union (regional), and USA Rugby.
Miss your competitive sports days? Rugby’s the answer. Nothing matches the sport for the combination of endurance, power, and sheer intensity. The second most popular sport in the world, our American football was developed from rugby. Rugby is growing in the U.S., with the rapid increase in high school teams and developmental age groups like U-15s and U-12s. Men’s teams play primarily at the club level, with players ranging in age from 17 to however old they can still keep up. Rugby is a game you can participate in for life – as a player, social member, mentor.
The season runs September-April. The Mad Dogs will play a 10-game Union (league) schedule
against division clubs from Dallas, Austin, & Victoria. We also
play several friendlies against college sides, including Texas Tech & Angelo
State. Additional matches may be played against men’s clubs from Dallas-Ft Worth, San Antonio, Houston, and other areas. We also attend 3-4 tournaments during the season. Summer is for 7s tournaments, like the Austin Huns Bloodfest, Texas A&M’s Hotter ‘N Hell in June, and Corpus Christi’s Sevens by the Sea (played on the beach) in July. 7s training for the Mad Dogs runs May thru mid-August.
Ex-pats – if you miss playing, we’re a rebuilding club and always need the experienced.
We have an experienced coaching staff presently training a lot of first year players, including several in high school. We are developing club facilities, including fields and a clubhouse. Contact one of the individuals below, or just show up for practice. No experience is necessary. Everything you’ve heard about rugby is… well, probably true. Remember - “ you don’t have to be crazy to play rugby – we’ll train you…”.
Practice times: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday & Thursday
All you require are: Shorts, t-shirt/jersey, cleats and running shoes, mouth piece, water
